What It Takes — Day 2 :: What'd I get myself into...

Two things today :: First one is me sharing some shit, the other one is something I need your help with!

1 :: Today I mapped out the timeline for the launch and the main deadlines I need to hit to launch the magazine in April.

Not gonna lie, this is where I kinda started to wonder WTF I got myself into by committing to doing this within the timeline of about one month, or 5 weeks. But at the same time, I feel like the fact I've done a bunch of past issues and I know the vibe of the magazine enough, I don't have to spend a lot of time fucking around with that. Also sometimes you really just have to say yes and commit to something before you even know what you're doing. I've never really created a project like this publicly before, so thats for sure gonna keep me on top of my shit, ha.

I took a photo of the rough calendar I have in my notebook and added it here! These dates are pretty rough at the moment, except for the final launch date — which is down for Monday April 23rd.

Here's what I got, since its probably impossible to read my writing/the pink pen ::

March 26th — Have the visual vibe down. This means have the overall cover feel nailed down, and a bunch of photos edited to use throughout the magazine. I'm not too anal about the cover being final at this point, but I want to have all of the visuals dialled so I can visually see it all coming together.

March 27th — Final call for submissions. I've posted a little here and there about calling for submissions for this issue, but I want to make another callout early next week!

March 28th — Along with submissions for each issue I also reach out to certain people that I want to interview, so this is the final date for me to do that. I'll be sharing more of my process/how I pitch the magazine next week.

March 29th — Main page layout done. I don't mean have ALL of the pages laid out, I just mean have my rough InDesign file setup and all of the features laid out, and the sections split up where I want them to be.

April 9th — This is the last day I want to order a printed proof, sooner if I can swing it. The timing of the printer can vary so I think I'm gonna be getting an express printed + shipped version for this, haha. I also want to have a good amount of final page designs + the cover done by this stage as this proof is what I'll use for promo photos, so it needs to have at least SOME final content in it.

April 18th — Promo photos done at the latest. This is cutting it pretty close to be honest, so I'll try and get ma photos done before this date. I want to do a fun + creative shoot this time around so I'm keen to see what I can come up with, HA. I have no ideas right now but I feel like I gotta take advantage of the scenery around me in British Columbia. 😜

April 19th — Final day to upload the finished PDF to my printer!

Aaaaand April 23rd — Time to launch this shit to the world. 🤘

2 :: What size should the magazine be?!

One of the awesome things about this new printer I'm using is that they have a LOT of different sizing options available.

The previous print issue I did was the standard size of 8.5x11 inches (approx 22x28 cm), but after grabbing a couple other slightly smaller magazines (approx 7.5x9.5 inches, or 25x19cm) lately it's had me thinking about downsizing the mag, but still keeping the same (or more) page count, so it's still got those thicc vibes. I'm also thinking that the smaller one might be a tiny bit easier to travel with, which I love... Throw it in ya handbag or backpack and you're off... yeah?

So... I'mma put it to a vote and see what you guys think! Check out the images below, then place your vote at the bottom of the email.

For scale I've taken a photo of the previous print issue of The Unmistakable Effect, alongside Suitcase magazine which I'm diggin' the size of ::
